Sitting on the window with cup of tea in hand, I see kids playing across street
Speaking with girl (new friend), in almost dead conversation, blame me!
Suddenly my attentions diverts, my thoughts gets bewildered.
Seeing kids I get memories of my school days.
Time when no one raced, those days are now disgraced!
Those boxes with broken/unshared pencils, saved coins one rupee a day!
One chit, oh, that was the number of that girl I met the other day!
Torn notebooks, some of them borrowed & unfinished assignments!
Those late entry remarks on calendar, teachers finding reasons to beat!
Sitting on last bench was always pride, but now being last is shame!
Changing seasons, being friends with rain!
Struggling for one pair of raincoat, I always ignored and liked being wet!
Recess was the best, especially when the toasted sandwich was on desk.
There was lot of noise, tiffins were shared, “again same food”, when friends complain!
When lunch was done, there was big school campus to play and run!
No one had a watch to see what time recess ends, except when the peon’s bell shouted “done”!
Growing old, changing uniforms, time was despair, but no one ever bothered change!
7 hours of school but then why we use to complain, especially when we never paid!
One hour of physical training, but we still were fat.
Long speeches on republic days, now for speeches we are paid! (school days)
“ring ring”, call from office about new assignment, flashback ends !
good old memories.........:)
